Once observing what is already established, the analyst and then point out any missing or problematic steps that the individual may be taking, not allowing them to achieve their goal. Thanks to a task analysis, the analyst can fill up the gaps and remove the unnecessary extra steps that are being in place, as well as familiarize themselves with the client’s current repertoire. The steps for a forward or backward chaining to be broken down in an extremely detailed manner so that there is no room for guessing, and the client can eventually make this behavior chain a part of their routine. With forward chaining, the analyst will teach the client the first step of the chain; on the opposite side, the analyst will teach the last link in the behavior chain to the client, in backward chaining.
