USE THIS ARTICLE: Saikal, A. (2024). The Middle East.
Counter Terrorist Trends and Analyses,
16(1), 87–93.

Purpose:  The purpose of this assignment is 1) to practice finding scholarly article and 2) practice critical evaluation in a low-stakes environment.

First, find a recent scholarly article in one of your disciplines. This article should be peer-reviewed (scholarly), in a reputable journal or edited volume, and from the last calendar year. You may use search engines online such as scholar.google.com or databases for your discipline. Please include a copy of the scholarly article with this submission.

Second, you should write out a short summary of the article for an interdisciplinary audience—don’t assume your reader knows anything about your discipline! This summary should include only the most important insight from the article, with some account for how the authors support their main claim. This should be no more than one page.

Third, you will write a critical evaluation of the article. Remember, critical evaluations do not have to be negative, but you should consider the limitations of this article’s disciplinary approach, insights, methods, concepts, or perspectives. You do not have to analyze all of these, just the main claim. Make sure that your critical evaluation is about this article specifically, rather than about disciplinary approaches in general. This section should be no more than one page.
